The world we live in feels incredibly heavy & broken 💔 400 years of the oppression of black men, women & children from around the globe, at the hands of white owned systems & institutions is weighing heavier than ever & it’s up to all of us to change it. As a white, & as a result privileged person, I feel some of the weight of that change. I see clearer than ever that the world cannot got back to the way it was before. It just can’t. George Floyd, & all of the others that have suffered & died at the hands of these broken & racist systems will not be in vain. As Georges’ beautiful little girl said perched on the shoulders of her uncle at a march in recent days “my daddy changed the world.” I truly believe that he has 🖤 #nojusticenopeace #georgefloyd #breonnataylor #listening #learning #whiteprivilege #changeiscoming

The beautiful, unedited face of a young black woman called Genevieve that I had the privilege of working with a few years ago. One of my all time favourite images from one of my all time favourite shoots. Genevieve’s lips are adorned with glass crystals but her natural & exceptional beauty is the thing that shines brightest of all in this image. Still gives me chills all these years later 🖤 Makeup by me, Photographer Marcus Appelt #blackisbeautiful #beauty #power #texture #light

Yesterday, I took the time to research, read & listen to some of the pain & injustices black men, women & children face on a daily basis simply because of the colour of their skin. This has to stop, full stop. I have, & will continue to write to my local MP regarding these injustices at home & abroad & have just donated to the Black Lives Matter movement & The Cherry Groce Foundation. Dorothy’s story in particular moved me to my core & the courage, kindness, strength & dignity she possesed for the love of her children was an inspiration. “On the 28th September 1985, witnessed by her children, Cherry Groce was shot in her home by the Metropolitan Police. The shooting of an innocent mother sparked the Brixton uprising, in which a community rose up in protest to the ongoing, systemic injustice faced by Britain’s black community. Having been paralysed by the shooting, Cherry passed away as a direct result of her injuries in 2011.” The police officer that shot her was cleared of all charges. I vow to keep learning, speaking up & educating myself for the rest of my life 🖤 #blacklivesmatter #dorothygroce #cherrygrocefoundation #whiteprivilege #enoughisenough
